The Centre provides scientific support to clients from the private and the public sector, such as UNEP and other organisations in the field of SCP. This support includes the development, testing, implementation and monitoring of concrete projects, especially in developing countries, which enables these countries to leapfrog to sustainable consumption and production patterns using life cycle thinking and regional perspectives as guiding principles. Digitalisation is of growing importance for each area of life, changing business models, value creation processes, mobility, research and a lot more. It was therefore also the topic of the second „Shaping progress – Fortschritt gestalten“ congress organised on 22 January 2015 by the Ministries of Science, Economy and Urban Development in North-Rhine-Westphalia and joined by about 400 participants from business, academia and civil society. On 25 February the GreenTec Award selection committee of which Michael Kuhndt has been part of since 2014 decided on the best environmental technologies for 2015 within a closed session. Energy efficiency in buildings and building related appliances is crucial for sustainable development, climate and resource protection and a low-risk worldwide energy system. However, while information on technologies and policies is abundant, it is scattered loosely and decision-makers find it difficult to access. The bigEE initiative was developed to address the need for a structured and systematic knowledge source on Energy Efficiency. The online knowledge platform bigee.net is a one-stop source of knowledge for policy-makers about energy efficiency options and how policy can support achieving those savings in buildings and appliances.
