The Centre provides scientific support to clients from the private and the public sector, such as UNEP and other organisations in the field of SCP. This support includes the development, testing, implementation and monitoring of concrete projects, especially in developing countries, which enables these countries to leapfrog to sustainable consumption and production patterns using life cycle thinking and regional perspectives as guiding principles. The CSCP has just kicked off its work on the new project INHERIT. The 18-partner, 4-year Horizon 2020 research project will examine the health and environmental implications of our living, moving and consuming patterns. The new EU-funded H2020 project – Intersectoral Health and Environment Research for Innovation (INHERIT) – brings together experts from the health, environment and other sectors, including technology, to investigate how to ensure environmental sustainability and improve health equity and well-being. Unlike the traditional take-make-consume-dispose approach, a circular economy seeks to respect environmental boundaries through increasing the share of renewable or recyclable resources while reducing consumption of raw materials and energy. It requires fundamental changes throughout the value chain, from product design and production processes to new business models and consumption patterns. Approaches such as eco-design, sharing, re-using, repairing, refurbishing and recycling will play a significant role in fostering the transition towards a more circular economy in Europe. Read more
