She was working in two projects related to civil society organisations, Civil Society Platform on SCP and Action Town - Research and Action for SCP.

Satu holds a MSc in Geography and Urban planning from the University of Helsinki. Prior to joining the CSCP, she worked in various projects and campaigns in Finnish environmental NGOs for promoting sustainable consumption and sufficient lifestyles as well as doing MIPS calculations. She also worked as a consultant with these topics for different organisations and universities.

She is still volunteering in several NGOs, including Finnish Association for Nature Conservation. She gives lectures, writes articles and blogs and wants to learn more about Media communication and popularisation of science.

...based on renewable energy and resource efficiency technology. In this context he worked on projects that support the market entry and export of German environmental technology to the fast growing BRIC economies.

Furthermore, Thomas worked on projects that explore the opportunities of sustainable product design for risk reduction, regulatory cost reduction, product and service innovation, product and brand differentiation, and customer relationships.

In the field of environmental policy and regulation his focus was on economic instruments. For both corporate and public sector clients he works on analysing the costs and benefits of existing as well as potential future framework conditions. In addition, he advised on consequences, opportunities and perspectives of climate change.

Thomas studied economics at the University of Bayreuth and at the University of California, Berkeley. During his studies he was involved with oikos, the international student organisation for sustainable economics and management. In 2006 he took a break from his studies in order to work fulltime as elected Executive Director of oikos International in St.Gallen, Switzerland. He gained further professional experience while working with KPMG in Zurich.

she finished in October 2008 with a degree as Master’s of Business Law. In addition to her postgraduate studies Katharina worked as  Public Relation and Event-manager for a company that specialised in offering workshops and networking events for entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and public intermediaries. Katharina is a member of AIESEC international e.V. and is team leader for the internship campaign within the external relations department of AIESEC Köln. While completing her law studies she also volunteered as board member and head of the trainee program for the universities radio station in addition to moderating radio shows and public events.

In 2010 Katharina finished her PhD thesis which focuses on international accounting and tax law.

She also supported projects related to the economics of SCP, project acquisition and collaborative meetings.
Maike holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Cultural- and Social Anthropology from Münster University, Germany. She is currently completing a Master’s degree programme in Human Ecology – Culture, Power and Sustainability at Lund University in Sweden, in addition to a practical application course in tandem with the internship with the CSCP. Her field of study lies in the area of political ecology, differing environmental discourses, power dimensions and sustainability. Her research interest is in the role of media and education in creating ecological awareness and how this awareness can be embedded in culture. Maike has worked with different cultural and environmental organizations supporting intercultural learning processes and has spent a year as an exchange student in the USA.  Maike also participated as a non-governmental visitor at the December, 2009, United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Copenhagen as well as a number of other international events related to SCP.

Martina is currently studying environmental law at the University of Sao Paulo and anticipates completing her degree in 2012.

She is currently studying International Material Flow Management at the University of Applied Science, Trier, Germany. Her research interests lie on solutions for sustainable development and environmental management in Asia, waste management, cleaner production and energy efficiency with a particular focus on Indonesia.

She earned her bachelors degree in Applied Economics and International institutions and is currently attending an MSc in Applied Economics and Economic Policies, both at the University of Ferrara (Italy). During her studies she spent one year at the University of Birmingham (UK) as an Erasmus student. Her main interests lie with the impact of economic activity on the environment and how economic growth can be reconciled with environmental needs. She will complete her Masters Degree in 2010.
Pamela worked as a volunteer for a local Italian UNICEF committee for 5 years.

Bernhard has a diverse background which includes working with the quality management department at BMW, working as a youth counsellor at youth camps in Italy in addition to living and working in New Zealand for six months. He has also studied abroad at the University of Missouri-Columbia in the USA. Through his interest in consumer behaviour he became interested in sustainability issues. Bernhard is currently studying Economics and Business Administration at the University of Tübingen, where he is also active at the food bank "Tübinger Tafel".

She holds a BA in International Relations from Dresden University of Technology in 2008. Prior to joining the CSCP, she began MSc studies in Sustainable Development at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. Following her internship at the CSCP she intends to continue with MA studies in Environmental Governance at the University of Essex, UK.
During her undergraduate degree she spent a semester abroad in Kingston, Jamaica, followed by an internship at the Goethe Institute in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She has been active in different student initiatives connected to Latin American politics, the United Nations, and human rights education, respectively.
Marit is a German national.

Before joining the CSCP, Tianyin worked as a research assistant at the Bavarian State Forestry Institute in Freising. He has also worked as an intern at the Cartographic Section within the Division of Sustainable Development at the United Nations in New York. Tianyin studied Civil Engineering and Computer Engineering in South China and earned his Masters Degree in Sustainable Resource Management at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He wrote a thesis on Cellulosic Bioethanol at the Institute for Renewable Resources and Energy Technology in Straubing.

After completing her undergraduate degree in development studies at the Norwegian university of life science, Veslemøy is currently enrolled as a master degree student in environmental management at the Aalborg University in Denmark. During her master degree, she has worked on various projects including corporate social responsibility in textile industry, environmental governance and politics in Africa and eco-design in a Danish dairy company. Her background reflects a broad and integrated combination of topics related to poverty, development, politics and environment. For two years she was the local elected member for SAIH´s National Board which is the students and academics international relief found.  
Veslemøy is a Norwegian national.

Lucia studied International Relations for Cooperation and Peace (major in Human Rights) as well as International Relations for Development. During her masters studies she undertook field research in Costa Rica to study sustainability and marketing strategies within coffee market with sponsorship from Nespresso. In parallel to her studies, Lucia undertook internships with the first UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, and with the NGO ActionAid International working on gender issues. Furthermore, she has been delegate at the Faculty Board on behalf of the international relations students at her university.
Lucia is about to complete her second graduate level degree in Human Development and Environment (University of Brescia), focusing on Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Consumption and Production.
She will graduate in December 2009 with a thesis focusing on “Sustainability and Human Development in Developing Countries”.

After studying in Geneva and Barcelona, she now holds a BA in International Relations and recently spent six months at the Swiss Commercial Chamber of France where she contributed to the administrative, communications, and general administration of the organisation. Since 2003 she has been involved in social, cultural, and linguistic projects, and on a voluntary basis she worked with young and non-integrated social groups by making use of the arts. Her interests lay in fields of sustainable development and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), as well as linkages between natural resources, poverty, and conflicts, and in more uncommon questions regarding aesthetics in international relations and international relations theory. Laura will begin further studies in International Relations and Management in autumn 2010.

Her thesis project explored the “Roots of the Global Consumer Class”  and she intends to continue with a Ph.D. program in “Sustainability, Humanism and Technology” at this same university.  Prior to her master’s degree she studied communications in Norway, Mexico, Australia and Ecuador and worked for some years in communications and sustainable event management.  She recently worked at the Worldwatch Institute in Washington, DC on the forthcoming “Worldwatch State of the World 2010”, which includes a focus on consumerism issues.
In Spain she has been involved in a number of civil society projects that promote sustainability with a focus on creative, positive and proactive change, both through cultural activities as well as resolving sustainability issues through systemic and innovative thinking.  She has travelled extensively and has participated in numerous voluntary projects in Syria, Bangladesh and Ecuador.

Moreover, the CSCP was commissioned by the Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) to conduct a research on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in SMEs in Latin America, in which he will participate as well.
Prior to joining the CSCP, Marcelo worked as an intern at the Institute for Devel-opment Cooperation “Südwind”, where he analysed the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities of multinational enterprises in Asia. Connected to this field, he participated in an internship in Cameroon, in which he led AIESEC’s local CSR team and organised a conference “Creating an Alliance on Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility of Enterprises”. As an intern at Siemens in Sao Paulo, he had the opportunity of acquiring a broad overview of its CSR involvement through working in the Human Resources department.

Heike has been an active member for the Groningen Student Union, at which she was a vice president between 2005-2006. Her interest in sustainability was evolved through her participation in the student union. 

In 2005, he worked as a volunteer for the relief organisation "Green Helmets" in Afghanistan for three months.

During his internship Michael Maxein acquired experience on the question how designers can help to activate common resources supporting a sustainable development.

Mr. Kind completed his undergraduate studies in Philosophy and Economics at the University of Bayreuth. An internship was mandatory for this programme and next to the thesis it was his final step towards completing his bachelor degree. Before coming to the CSCP, Christian undertook an internship with the Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim with the Department for Environmental Economics.

Her role as an Extension Associate was to conduct education programs for and advising fruit growers in post-harvest crop management for tree fruits. Prior to her appointment at Cornell University, she worked as an Assistant Professor in Horticulture at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. In addition to teaching responsibilities she established a research program in environmental tree crop eco-physiology (irrigation, stress and whole-plant physiology).

Ms. Pavel studied agronomy with focus on plant sciences at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn. After completing her Ph.D. in environmental tree crop eco-physiology (collaboration between University of California, USA, and Bonn, Germany), she completed three postdoctoral appointments in the United States (VTech: plant physiology and environmental sciences) and in Spain (irrigation/water relations in fruit trees).

Ms. Pavel is experienced working in and visiting developing/emerging countries (Bolivia, Chile, South Africa) and serves as a member of several advisory and screening committees for research proposals and projects (CGIAR, FAO, NRF South Africa, Water Research Commission South Africa), serves as a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Tree Physiology and reviews research papers for various other scientific journals.

Ulrike Solmecke holds a M.A. degree in Sinology and East Asian Studies and studied in Bochum, London and Taiwan. She has been working as export manager for different enterprises and in the field of destination acquisition for a tour operator - both with a focus on Asia. Currently she is writing her Ph.D. thesis on sustainable tourism in China at the Department of East Asian Economics at the Ruhr-University in Bochum.

During her studies she carried out a six-month placement in Ecuador working for a local NGO in youth empowerment and democracy development. Before beginning her studies she spent eight months in Mexico working as a volunteer in environmental education and eco-tourism.

She spent eight months at ENEA (ente per le nuove tecnologie l’energia e l’ambiente) research centre as a trainee working on the Life Cycle Assessment methodologies.

At the CSCP her main contribution was to the Human Development through the Market project (HDtM) collaborating specifically in issues related to the agricultural sector.

Furthermore, David Bennemann conducted research on the  impacts of climate change on developing countries as well as urban sustainability.

Mr. Bennemann was student of Social Sciences, Education Sciences and French Linguistics at the University Duisburg-Essen. Before working at the Centre, David Bennemann was involved in a Model United Nations Conference (MUN-Conference), held in New York in March 2007.

Prior to the CSCP she has undertaken two internships, one at a marketing consultancy and the other at the statistical office of Düsseldorf. Ms. Klees is studying Business Administration at the Heinrich-Heine-University of Düsseldorf and majors in Environmental Management, Econometrics and Corporate Management. After the internship she will continue her studies, expectedly writing her thesis on a sustainability-related topic in the coming year.

An internship was a requirement for this programme and this was her final step towards completing her Master Degree. During her studies she carried out a one academic year in Shanghai, China at the UNEP-Tongji Institute for Environmental Management and Sustainable Development.

At the CSCP, she was providing support and input to the Human Development through the Market project with a focus on the energy sector. Prior to her studies in France, Ms. Bicalho worked as a Communication and Marketing consultant for one year. She also worked on the field of Social Marketing for two years, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

In her final thesis she looked into the linkages between war economies, natural resources and external economical actors, primarily from the extractive sector. Currently she is conducting research for her doctoral thesis in political science.

Apart from her studies she worked for the European Parliament in Brussels and studied in Spain.

Matching all the different studies and experiences had in the past, his wish is to deepen his knowledge and professionalism about the "triangle" of media, society and the environment, to apply his skills towards more sustainable ways of life.

Prior to joining the CSCP Gregory Tyson worked with the Canadian government on planning, implementation and oversight of producer responsibility systems for packaging, medications and hazardous household wastes, which included extensive communication with regulated brand owners, industry trade associations, NGOs and local government authorities. Gregory Tyson has also worked on policy evaluation in a variety of policy fields as well as in longer term planning processes including the development of a producer responsibility regulatory framework intended to govern a broad and diverse range of product types.

Gregory Tyson has spoken on Extended Producer Responsibility and innovation in resource productivity, in addition to sustainability in tourism, to government and industry groups in Canada and Europe.

Gregory Tyson holds an MSc in Environmental Management and Policy from the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE, Lund University, Sweden). He previously earned a BSc in Environmental Science at Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia (Canada).

He has participated in several product design projects for the Taiwan Industrial Development Bureau and for companies with manufacturing backgrounds. The assignments included assessing the needs of the companies (Cost, Quality, Function, Main Consumer etc.) and the target market (Goals & Limitations, Competitors etc.) and providing innovative and creative ideas for design solutions at each stage leading to the successful progress of the product design projects. He was selected as an outstanding student in 1999.

At the same time as his internship at the CSCP he is working as a Scientific Assistant at the Institute for Technology in the Tropics (ITT) at the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne.

He holds a diploma in mechanical engineering from the Rheinish University of Applied Sciences in Cologne and is about to complete an MSc Programme at the Institute for Technology in the Tropics at the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne, with special emphasis on Technology and Resource Management in the Tropics und Subtropics. 

Before working at the Wuppertal Institute, she had been co-responsible for the operational and conceptual preparation of an international event in Turin, Italy, called “Eco-Efficiency Biennial”. In addition, she had been involved in an awareness raising campaign for young people in the federal state of Lower Saxony. Besides, since January 2004, she was voluntarily engaged in several projects of an environmental NGO in Berlin, mainly dealing with Agenda 21-processes, awareness raising campaigns.

Sandra Kolberg had been studying Scandinavian studies, focussing political science as well as environmental politics. As a second subject she studied Communication Science concentrating on public relations and media science.

In this way he aimed to contribute his knowledge of media and communication to the field of sustainable development.

During his studies he worked as an intern for an event agency, assisting with project management, and did another internship at the German television station SWR, where he had the opportunity to make two short films on the subject of a talent competition. For one semester he studied abroad at the University of Seville in Spain. Prior to his studies he had successfully completed his professional training in the field of advertisement.

As a member of the Student Network for Ethics in Economic Education and Practice (SNEEP), which is part of the German Business Ethics Network (DNWE), he is involved in various projects aimed at giving scholars an understanding of the meaning of business ethics.  

In the Friends of the Earth European (FoEE) office, he provided background material for campaigns in the areas of energy and environment, climate change, trade and sustainable development. In the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW-EU), he provided background material for the campaign on the bush meat crisis in Africa and assisted in the distribution of a petition containing two million signatures to EU parliamentarians.

He holds a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from the Yaounde University II (Cameroon) and a Masters in Human Ecology from the Vrije University in Brussels (Belgium).

During an internship at the Institute for Ecological Economy Research in Heidelberg she participated in the EU project “Sustainability Impact Assessment”. The aim of the project was to further develop guidelines to assess the impacts of trade agreements on sustainability.

Carla Wesemann holds a Certificat d’Etudes Politiques from her academic year spent at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Lille (France).

Her undergraduate degree was in Finance.

After completing her first university degree, she moved to Washington DC to work for a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable nourishment (i.e. the way we eat). She stayed there for two years until she began her graduate work.  This summer she spent in Tel Aviv working for the Israeli Water Commission.

The Internship was part of his Masters programme in Aalborg University. While at the CSCP, Rudolf was working on producing a Sustainability Report for the CSCP. The report profiled sustainability aspects of the centre as well as provide Rudolf an opportunity to complete his internship assignment from his University which is to prepare a 30 to 50 page study on a relevant sustainability related topic for presentation/defence upon return to his studies. Rudolf was also assisting with the Human Development through the Market (HDtM) project.

These principles build on the Brundtland definition and incorporated the use of other frameworks or theories such as backcasting and systems thinking.

Her undergraduate degree is in Fine Art and English, with an emphasis on drawing, painting and photography.  However after pursuing a career in the Art world for a few years she decided to shift her focus to working in Sustainability, and from this direction eventually bring together the two fields of study. 

Her tasks at the CSCP were contributing to the organizational tasks regarding the “Expert Conference on the Marrakech Process – Creating Solutions for Sustainable Consumption and Production” and SCORE! Conference.

She received a junior fellowship from Joint Program in Survey Methodology at the University of Maryland (USA). In the USA she worked in the field of population distribution at the United States Census Bureau and for small and medium-sized enterprises.  Additionally, she was a volunteer at environmental organizations.

In September she completed her Master of Science in environmental management and politics at the IIIEE (International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics) at University of Lund (Sweden).

Before Wendy Wallace got a Master of Science in sustainable methods of consumption and production in the retail industry.

She graduated from University of Richmond (USA) with a Bachelor of Science in political and environmental science. In addition, she also studied environmental management and politics in Copenhagen (Denmark).

Since 2004 she has been working as the manager of the first fair trade shop in Slovenia and has been representing the fair trade shops network in the country.

She holds a Bachelors degree in Biochemistry. In 1996 she obtained a Masters in Environmental Sciences and Policy at the Central European University (CEU), Budapest (Hungary). In 1999 she finished a postgraduate course on Environmental Management at the University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands), where part of her work involved research related to Eco-services and sustainable consumption and production.

His areas of focus also include Corporate Social Responsibility and corporate governance in the oil and mining industries, as well as sustainable consumption.

After graduating, he worked for Franco Consultants (Lagos) as a Project Quantity Surveyor before embarking on his National Youth service programme with the Sokoto State Ministry of Education, Sokoto and Prodeco Int. Limited, Port-Harcourt and was subsequently retained as Project Quantity Surveyor and Construction Cost Analyst, a position he held until going into private practice and consultancy.

Cashmiar Audu holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Quantity Surveying from the Federal University of Technology Akure Nigeria and is about to complete an MBA-IMRE programme at the University of Technology Freiberg-Germany with special emphasis on the International Management of Resources and the Environment.

He holds a master in Administration with a focus on Management from Wroclaw University in Poland. During his last year of studies he was an exchange student at the University of Bochum (Germany) and at the University of Salzburg (Austria). Tomasz Muchorowski was a freelancer at various cultural oriented magazines and websites.

As a postgraduate student he studied European culture and Economics (ECUE) at  Ruhr-University Bochum in Germany. During his stay in Germany he gained

practical experience at an e-business project for a management consulting company. In addition, before writing his thesis, he did an internship in the Corporate Development departement of a construction chemistry company.
