The upcoming Rio + 20 Conference on Sustainable Development, taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2012 will be the occasion when the world leaders along with the delegates of governments, private sector, NGOs and other groups will discuss how far the world has gone in leapfrogging to sustainable development since the 1992 Earth Summit. In addition to “green economy for sustainable development and poverty eradication”, the second theme on which the Conference will focus will be “the institutional framework for sustainable development”. Organized in collaboration with the Global e-Initiative (GeSI), this interactive workstudio aims to involve stakeholders in the co-creation of a vision of lifestyles in 2050 and the different actions that the Information and Communication Technology sector can take towards making these lifestyles and consumption patterns more sustainable. According to the report Sustainable Lifestyles: Today’s Facts & Tomorrow’s Trends, many initiatives, policies, businesses and social movements have accumulated in Europe in the last decade which have motivated citizens to change their lives to higher quality, less impact on the environment, and less costs. The report prepared by the CSCP coordinated EU project SPREAD Sustainable Lifestyles 2050 presents a synthesis of research, leading policy and practice, and stakeholder views on potential pathways toward a further spreading of sustainable lifestyles.

From 25-27 June, this year's Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum in Bonn will spotlight "Culture. Education. Media. Shaping a Sustainable World". The CSCP will host a workshop on June 26th on the topic of Sustainable Lifestyles and Communication and Journalism of the Future. The workshop aims to develop a better understanding of the influence that different media and communications have on lifestyles. Read more
