CSCP is joining the panel discussion on Promoting the Green Economy through Eco-Innovation. Ms. Jadwiga Zurad, representing the CSCP is speaking together with Ms. Rozalina Petrova from DG Environment, European Commission.
Abstract
In the EU, more than 20 million jobs are already linked to the environment and the figure will increase as the EU continues its commitment to growing the economy while protecting natural resources. A key objective of Europe 2020, the strategy for growth and jobs, is to address the need for sustainable and inclusive growth through the promotion of a competitive and greener economy in the EU. A priority will be to support businesses to compete globally while being able to make the shift to a greener economy, which will require the labour market to acquire the skills and training needed to work in the green economy.
Green jobs apply to a wide range of sectors such as construction, transport, energy supply, engineering or science. The EU initiative New Skills for New Jobs should help in supporting the transition to a low carbon economy by allowing Member States to anticipate the future labour market needs in this area, making green growth a potential solution to the current unemployment crisis.
As part of the 2020 strategy, the EU has committed to offer its support to businesses so they can achieve the shift to a greener economy whilst remaining competitive on the global stage. Investments and innovative projects are indeed essential to the achievement of the transition to a green European economy. The EU climate and energy package also reflects the recognition of jobs creation through climate and energy challenges.
This timely international symposium provides an invaluable opportunity for delegates to examine the future of green growth in Europe by focusing on its economic, social and financial aspects. Delegates will explore how future skills-needs can be better anticipated to suit the market and how the green economy can be boosted by investing in green technologies and eco-innovation.
