In 2012 the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) started to revise the legal and administrative basis of its worldwide network of Collaborating Centres in order to cater for evolving needs and nature of the collaboration. In doing so the previous Memorandum of Understanding between UNEP and the Wuppertal Institute which relates to the “UNEP/Wuppertal Institute Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption & Production (CSCP)” was terminated. Currently UNEP and the CSCP are exploring new ways of collaboration towards achieving the goals set out at Rio plus 20. The Centre's name has therefore changed to the "Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production".
