China and Europe: Exchange on policy initiatives for sustainable consumption

A unique exchange between Chinese and European delegates on the topic of sustainable consumption will be organized by the CSCP on 23 May 2013 in Brussels. The Workshop Policy Initiatives for Sustainable Consumption & the Financing of Change will be hosted by the Task Force on Sustainable Consumption and Green Development (SC and GD) which formed in 2012 as working group of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED).

The aim of the workshop is to share lessons learned between China and Europe regarding the development of policy initiatives for sustainable consumption and to facilitate a dialogue on the opportunities for the financing of innovation and infrastructure to enable more sustainable consumption patterns and improved quality of life. The results of this exchange will contribute to the Task Force research and thus to the development of policy recommendations and a roadmap for China toward sustainable consumption in 2025.

The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety is providing support to this CCICED-Task Force via the Environmental Partnership Project, which is led by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ).

The Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption & Production (CSCP), represented by Michael Kuhndt, has been appointed by the CCICED as international co-chair of the CCICED-Task Force.
