CATALYST – Collective intelligence tools for sustainability
Online communities have been playing an increasingly important role in supporting grassroots initiatives in the area of sustainability and social innovation in jointly finding solutions for societal challenges. As such platforms grow larger and larger, it is more and more difficult for community managers to ensure efficient debates among citizens. The CATALYST projects develops and tests Collective Intelligence tools, which are made available, as open source solutions, to any interested communities.
The eco-system of tools enables online communities to communicate easier and more efficient and supports community managers and harvesters in managing the community well. The CSCP is one of the testing partners of the project and has the role to demonstrate how CATALYST’s tools can be useful to online discussions around sustainable lifestyles.
The first round of testing was done testing the tool LiteMap (http://catalyst-fp7.eu/open-tools/litemap/), which allows visualising complex topics with an argument map, together with the online platform on sustainable consumption and lifestyles Utopia.de in 2014. The second test took place using the discussion tool Assembl (http://catalyst-fp7.eu/open-tools/assembl/) with the 7th Sustainable Summer School (http://www.sustainable-summer-school.org/) in 2015. The results of both test can be found here.
The final report of the project is available here.
The CATALYST project is one of the first CAPS (Collective Awareness Platforms for Sustainability and Social Innovation) projects funded by the European Union.
