| It is in buildings that we live, work and carry out almost all of our business. To make our houses and work sites suitable to live and work, we need energy, most |
importantly for space heating and cooling and for operating appliances. According to the International Energy Agency buildings account for approximately 40% of global final energy demand and one third of the energy-related CO2 emissions (IEA 2008). Because of this, increasing the efficiency of energy use in buildings is a critical component of any strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and avoid risks of adverse impacts.
One stop – all information
Bridging the information gap on Energy Efficiency in buildings (bigEE) is an international initiative that aims to provide a web-based “one-stop-shop” resource for energy efficiency issues in buildings. The initiative assists policy-makers and private decision-makers/investors to make informed decisions when seeking to enhance energy efficiency of buildings.
Successful launch in Doha
On December 4th 2012 the web-based knowledge platform bigEE.net was launched during the UN Climate Negotiations in Doha, Qatar. It is the most comprehensive web-based information resource of its kind on energy efficiency in buildings. It provides an integrated overview of existing know-how on technological solutions, policy options and examples of good practice drawn from around the world.
