There are more than 1.3 billion consumers in China. Because of this fact sustainable consumption is of major importance in China as economic growth and prosperity continue to advance. Beginning in September 2012 the task force on Sustainable Consumption and Green Development, one of two task forces created by the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), has been co-chaired by Michael Kuhndt, Head of the CSCP, together with CCICED Vice Secretary General Xu Qinghua.
Leading China toward a sustainable year 2025
At the annual general meeting of last year’s council in December 2012, Michael Kuhndt met Wen Jiabao, the Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. In November 2013 the co-chairs of the Sustainable Consumption and Green Development task force will meet with the incoming Premier to report on recommendations of the Task Force.
