CSCP presentations on Sharing City and Green Living at ICLEI World Congress were a big hit

The global World Congress of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability takes places every three years and enables ICLEI members and partners to discuss latest solutions for a sustainable urban future. The ICLEI World Congress 2015 in Seoul, South Korea, took place from 8 to 12 April 2015 and gathered around 1000 international and over 1000 Korean participants, making it the largest ICLEI World Congress to date.

CSCP was there to present on two themes. During the session “CityScene projects – mise-en-scène of future urban life”. Mayor Yeom of Suwon, South Korea and Mayor Tau of Johannesburg, South Africa, presented the first and second EcoMobility World Festivals. “While these courageous Mayors are busy organizing these Festivals, the young are already dreaming up the next ambitious projects”, as facilitator Konrad Otto-Zimmermann put it. He was referring to the idea of Green Living! Sustainable Urban Lifestyle Month presented by CSCP’s Susanne Salz, with the motto “One Month. One City. One Future”. Green Living! will transform one urban neighbourhood into a real-live showcase of sustainable urban lifestyles of the future involving mobility, consumption, housing, mindsets and much more. Participants welcomed the idea, with one city representative even calling it “brilliant”.

CSCP Project Manager Susanne Salz also introduced Sharing Economy and the Sharing City during the session "Sharing City: From Ownership to Access". Seoul Metropolitan Government is a globally recognized pioneer in this area and presented its initiatives and successes. During the discussions participants agreed that a key step forward will be to measure the social, environmental and economic impacts of Sharing Cities. Given the high interest in the topic, ICLEI invited Susanne Salz up on stage during the Closing Plenary of the Congress to give a brief summary of the Sharing City.
